Old Books & New Books...

20:12 Aug 10 2011
Times Read: 571

Originality is a challenge to uphold. It is inevitable that the work of past pundits and thinkers will provide inspiration for future works. This is also the case for research and interpretation. It is important for writers to strengthen their own voices.

I am interested in Wiki pages where visitors to web-pages are able to edit and contribute to the existing material. This Wiki team editorial style could easily be applied to a vampire setting.

I am still a fan of gothic/vampire anthologies and am open to creating a project of collaborative fiction. This open invitation stands for anyone interested. Drop me an e-mail message if intrigued.

Considering the Early Renaissance...

20:36 Aug 07 2011
Times Read: 576

I enjoyed reading the English translation of The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.

Good works of history include Gibbon's Fall of the Roman Empire and the works of Will and Ariel Durant.

I also like the late Stephen Jay Gould.

Cultural history is an interesting and multi-faceted topic.

This is also true for the evolution of mythology. Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces is enlightening.

I like to review documents of the early Renaissance. I'm drawn to the inspiration of the German passion plays and the freedom necessary for Dante Alighieri to write the Divine Comedy. It is eerie and strange that so many centuries passed before someone could write extensively about the juxtaposition of Heaven and Hell.

It seems that the cycle of construction, destruction and reconstruction are lasting themes in literature and culture.

Back from a Break...

07:20 Aug 05 2011
Times Read: 583

I'm glad to be back.

I was offline for a few days.

I continue to prepare research materials for a new story.

Recently I've been leaning toward Historical Fiction, similar in some respects to the writing style of the late James Michener.

There is always inspiring material out there and it's a lot of fun when in the brainstorming stages.

Setting up Shop for some Writing...

06:04 Aug 01 2011
Times Read: 574

I've got some spare time on my hands so I'm getting in gear to do some writing.

I need to focus on fewer characters than I did with Order & Chaos. This will allow more space within the plot for character analysis and soliloquy.

Like in the real world people in stories go through quests and changes, dilemmas and achievements. This is what draws the reader in to what is happening in any fictional setting.

There are many names for fiction: Goth/Vampire, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Cyber Punk and Historical to name but a few.

I'm still interested in surreal worlds where physics are different and magic is tangible.

I'll need to set up some figurative maps and campaign scenarios.

Its always good to keep busy.

I'll be sure to share any material that is worth reading.
